Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty project

A new Sustainable Environment Project was created by funding from the Sustainable Development Fund for £9,500. The funding enabled the creation of a new nature area to allow the interaction of education to the natural environment. Learners and community groups worked hard creating footpaths, fencing, viewing platforms and areas for pond dipping.

The nature area was created within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty based with the Lincolnshire Wolds. It was important when creating the project to retain the character of the area while enhancing it for the purposes of education and wildlife.

One large addition was the creation of a pond. Due to the geographical location of the project it was important to improve the open water provision as little open water is available at present throughout the Lincolnshire Wolds. The open water has already created a habitat for a variety of different birds, ducks, insects and mammals who visit the pond on a daily basis.

Once fully established, the area will be open to educational groups, interest groups and local community groups, who can all enjoy the beautiful views to Grimsby across the coast and down to Skegness. Already it has been noticed that an array of plants and animals have already moved into the area and it is an exciting time to see what develops over the forth coming months and years.
